Mountain Elgon National Park

Mountain Elgon National Park

Kjong Safaris Uganda would like to introduce to you Mountain Elgon National Park.
Mountain Elgon National Park
is found on the largest volcanic base in world, it’s a home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered lammergeyer small antelopes, forest monkeys, elephants and buffaloes also live on the mountainside. The higher slopes are protected by national parks in Uganda and Kenya creating and extensive trans-boundary conservation area which has been declared a UNESCO man And Biosphere Reserve.
Hiking on Mountain Elgon deserted moorlands unveils magnificent and uncluttered wilderness without the summit-oriented approach common to many mountains: the ultimate goal on reaching the top of Mt. Elgon is not the final ascent to 4,321m Wagagai peak, but the descent into vast 40km2 Caldera.
Activities that can be done in this amazing game park are mountain hiking, the shortest but steepest hike takes 4 days following the sasa trail and the other trail is the sipi trail which takes 4 to 6 days and the longest trail(Piswa trail) starts at the  village of kapkwata on the north side of the mountain beyond kapchorwa
A visit to the breath-taking Sipi Falls which are on the northern and eastern side of Mountain, these are three water falls at sipi in kapchorwa just outside the park, the lowest of these is the most spectacular as it cascades over 100m cliff, you can stand behind the caves and enjoy the back view of the falls.
A visit to the Nyero rock Paintings that o back to about 100 years, these are the finest of the several rock art sites in the region.
The wildlife adventure tour of the region, where you are able to do bird watching, primate tracking, wildlife adventures of the buffaloes, elephants and so many others you can get a chance to view the amazing
vegetation in the area. The mountain slopes are covered with OliveOleahochstetter land forest, at high latitudes this changes to olive and Podocarpusgracilior forest, this is an excellent place to view primates such as the black and white colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys and baboons.
If you would love to visit this wonderful but yet untapped beauty visit us on www.kjongsafarisuganda.com and to read more about Mt. Elgon National Park
Be Blessed as you follow us on more trips around Uganda and East Africa at large, Until next time.

Pope Francis - Uganda is a unique country

Pope Francis has said his first trip to Africa was full of surprises and praised the people for having a great “sense of welcoming”. The Pontiff, who returned to Vatican on Monday after a seven-day trip, to Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic, also said he was happy to have been to Uganda, singling out the country as being unique with the story of the Uganda Martyrs.

“Every nation of course has its own identity; Kenya is more modern, Uganda has its identity with the Martyrs and I went to both shrines – the Anglican and Catholic,” he said while fielding questions from the journalists travelling on the Papal plane.

Pope Francis arrived in Uganda last Friday from Kenya, and was here for a three-day state visit, the climax of which he led an open air Eucharistic celebration at the Uganda Martyr’s Catholic Shrine Namugongo attended by thousands of believers last Saturday.
Pope Francis also met with catechists and teachers before another meeting with thousands of Ugandan youth at Kololo, where he challenged them to turn negatives into positives. The Pope later met bishops of Uganda, priests and seminarians and also met with Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The Pope had on arrival in Uganda on Friday, met privately with President Museveni at State House, Entebbe, before addressing diplomatic corps attached to Uganda and government officials.

The Pontiff left Uganda on Sunday, enroute Central African Republic, his last stop on his maiden African trip, where he says he saw desire for peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

He said he saw a spirited will to foster peace – not hatred – and hoped the people of CAR will hold elections that can propel the nation to prosperity.

Asked whether he planned to visit Africa again anytime soon, Pope Francis responded by saying he is an old man “and these trips are heavy business.”
