Pope Francis - Uganda is a unique country

Pope Francis has said his first trip to Africa was full of surprises and praised the people for having a great “sense of welcoming”. The Pontiff, who returned to Vatican on Monday after a seven-day trip, to Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic, also said he was happy to have been to Uganda, singling out the country as being unique with the story of the Uganda Martyrs.

“Every nation of course has its own identity; Kenya is more modern, Uganda has its identity with the Martyrs and I went to both shrines – the Anglican and Catholic,” he said while fielding questions from the journalists travelling on the Papal plane.

Pope Francis arrived in Uganda last Friday from Kenya, and was here for a three-day state visit, the climax of which he led an open air Eucharistic celebration at the Uganda Martyr’s Catholic Shrine Namugongo attended by thousands of believers last Saturday.
Pope Francis also met with catechists and teachers before another meeting with thousands of Ugandan youth at Kololo, where he challenged them to turn negatives into positives. The Pope later met bishops of Uganda, priests and seminarians and also met with Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The Pope had on arrival in Uganda on Friday, met privately with President Museveni at State House, Entebbe, before addressing diplomatic corps attached to Uganda and government officials.

The Pontiff left Uganda on Sunday, enroute Central African Republic, his last stop on his maiden African trip, where he says he saw desire for peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

He said he saw a spirited will to foster peace – not hatred – and hoped the people of CAR will hold elections that can propel the nation to prosperity.

Asked whether he planned to visit Africa again anytime soon, Pope Francis responded by saying he is an old man “and these trips are heavy business.”

Facts about the Magnificent Murchison falls National Park

Facts about the Magnificent Murchison falls National Park

Murchison falls National Park sits on the northern edge of the Albertan rift Valley. The park was first gazette as a game reserve in 1926, making it Uganda’s oldest conservation area.

Boasting a surface area of about 2840 square kilometers, the park is also Uganda’s largest in terms of size. Murchison falls plays host to a wide range of wildlife that include about 76 species of mammals and a recorded bird population of more than 450 species.

The park is bisected by Victoria Nile that flows from Lake Victoria that plunges from a height of about 45meters through rocky opening on the surface of the rift valley. The huge water volume creates a magnificent waterfall know as Murchison falls. These falls form the centerpiece of the parks attraction sites.

The Nile River inside the park is a spectacle not worth missing; a boat ride along the Nile to the foot of Murchison falls is a rewarding experience for the nature lovers as the northern bank teems with a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles. Guided nature walks along both the north and south banks adore refreshing activity, sport fishing, and lastly rafting.

The river meanders in a slow steam down the floor of the rift valley before it empties into Lake Albert. It is at this stage that the river combines with the ecosystem around it to attract wild game and hence forming one of the most remarkable wildlife spectacles.

During the Uganda tour to Murchison Falls a visit to buligi is something you should not miss. The buligi game tracks that stretch between the Victoria and Albert Nile provide the parks most remarkable game viewing locations. Along the banks of the rivers are such wild games as elephants, giraffes and buffaloes while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds’ permanent residents.

The Parra hippo point. Parra meaning home of the hippo in the local Lou language, is the best spot to watch the massive hippos in the river. Also within the park is the kaniyo pabidi forest, a forest ecosystem that hosts the black and white colobus and blue monkeys, olive baboons, and a habituated chimp group which can be tracked.

The remote community of Mubarak is located beside the sprawling savanna of Murchison falls national park. The village is a cluster of traditional thatched huts around a clearing where villagers gather to escape the midday sun under the shade of large tree. At dusk the cultural groups perform vibrant songs and dances around the campfires of the local lodges accompanied by the beautiful sound of the adungu.

Uganda The Pearl Of Adventure PART 1

Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa”, has ten National Parks displaying the best of East Africa. The Rift Valley landscapes and tropical forests make dramatic backdrops to an extensive variety of fauna and flora. UGANDA has various parks, communities, landscapes and wildlife to experience while on a safari. Today let us explore Kidepo Valley National Park the goose that lays the golden eggs of adventure.

Kidepo Valley National Park lies 700 km from Kampala in the rugged, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with South Sudan and Kenya. Gazetted as a national park in 1962, it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as 475 bird species.

The park houses Uganda's most exciting and rare species including; the greater and lesser kudu, eland and cheetah. Carnivores like the lion, leopard, spotted hyena and black-backed and side-striped jackals. Other large species regularly seen here include the Elephant, Burchell’s zebra, Warthogs, Rothschild’s giraffe, Cape buffalo, Bush buck, Bush duiker, Defassa water buck, Bohr reed buck, Jackson’s hartebeest
 and Oribi.

The park boasts a variety of birds with over 475 species, making it second only to Queen Queen Elizabeth National Park. Birds like the Ostrich, Kori Bustard and Karamoja Apalis. Kidepo is notable for its birds of prey, of the 56 species recorded, 14  including Verreaux’s Eagle, Egyptian Vulture and Pygmy Falcon – are believed to be endemic to the Kidepo and the Karamoja region. There has, however, been no comprehensive survey of birds in Kidepo and visitors stand a good chance of adding to the current list.

Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated national park, but the few who make the long journey north through the wild frontier region of Karamoja would agree that it is also the most magnificent, for Kidepo ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses

From Apoka, in the heart of the park, a Savannah landscape extends far beyond the gazetted area, towards the horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges.During the dry season, the only water in the park is found in wetlands and remnant pools in the broad Narus Valley near Apoka. These seasonal oases, combined with the open, Savannah terrain, make the Narus Valley the park’s prime Narus Valley the park's prime game viewing location.

Book your trip with Kjong safaris and we shall experience the best Kidepo has to offer on your Uganda holiday safaris. BOOK NOW to enjoy your adventure filled holiday.

Exploring Kisoro

EXPLORING KISORO

There is a lot to do in Kisoro it happening to the land of a thousand hills composed of over 24 crater lakes.
On a recent trip down to South Western Uganda I came to realize that the boarder district of Kisoro has much more to offer than what we thought before, South of Kabale this boarder district is nestled between mountains and lakes, touched by the two boarders of the democratic republic of Congo and Rwanda. Traditionally the area offered Mountain Gorilla Trekking Safaris and the hikes to any of the three dormant volcano mountain of Mgahinga, Muhavura and Sabinyo.

Recent additions have been the Golden monkey treks and the Batwa trail which takes you back to the times our ancestors used to live in the forest and depended entirely on nature for survival. For the more adventurers there is a walk from Nkuringo which will take around bwindi and end up in Kisoro town, there is also exploring the Lake Mutanda in the dugout canoes with local area Guides, one may set off on foot from their lodging through the back routes of Kisoro and end up with canoes riding on Lake Mutanda as one way to explore the region.

There also other short but interesting excursion on offer by the travelers rest hotel, remember this place once acted as a refuge for the famous Gorilla conservationist Diana Fossey all this in Kisoro.

Therefore for a mix of history, adventure and culture why not check out the Kisoro area, our recommendations, guided community walk with canoeing on Lake Mutanda, hiking the Volcanoes, Nkuringo walking safari, Batwa community trail, Golden Monkey visits and lastly Gorilla trekking safaris in Uganda and Rwanda

To discover Kisoro in Uganda BOOK HERE!! your safari ticket as we travel together hence discovering Africa.
